Optical measurement
Optical sensors use fluorescence quenching. They consume no oxygen, need no electrolyte and do not require polarization, which can simplify routine maintenance.
Polarographic measurement
Polarographic electrodes produce a current proportional to oxygen concentration. They require polarization and periodic membrane and electrolyte service but remain widely understood in fermentation facilities.
How to choose
Compare low-level range, response expectations, existing transmitter compatibility, maintenance practice, sterilization cycle and validation requirements rather than choosing by principle alone.
